As per the population census done in 1991, Gujarat comes at the second place with 37.67% urban population as far as urbanization is concerned. Going by the growth of the population in cities, by 2011 it will be 50%.
After 74 th Constitutional Amendment there is a visible growth in the number of municipalities. Before 1994 there were 62 Municipalities in Gujarat . Right now the number is 141.

Before 1994 there were 6 Municipal Corporation in the state. 1. Ahmedabad, 2. Vadodara, 3. Surat , 4. Jamnagar , 5. Bhavnagar , 6. Rajkot . The number reached 7 when Junagadh was later added into it. |
