Urban Development

Infrastructural Facilities
In view of increasing urbanization, it is essential to evolve special plan for providing basic amenities in the cities. It is found necessary to provide for the infrastructure facilities as prioritized:
01.
Potable Water Distribution:
Under Amrutdhara Yojana, the government will invest Rs. 300 crore towards providing potable water to all urban areas, and fund internal distribution system to ensure supply of clean water at the rate of 140 Ipcd by the end of the year 2007.

By March 2006, 48 municipalities would be connected with the water source from Narmada Canal.
02.

Drainage Facilities:
All incomplete drainage works in the municipalities would be undertaken at the cost of Rs. 35 crore. All municipal corporations would enhance their drainage network and sewage treatment plant.

03.

Upgradation of main roads:
All encroachments on the main arterial roads would be removed and upgraded by plantations, footpaths and lightings. The Government would upgrade all the roads under State's R & B department, which are passing through towns and cities at a cost of Rs. 100 crore.

Development of at least one main road as a model road in the city would be undertaken, which would encompass removal of encroachment, footpath development, uniform colour code of all the buildings along the road, flower pots along the road, and various other developmental plans for beautification. All such activities would be undertaken with public participation.

04.
Electrification:
It is planned to ensure 24 hour electric supply to all the cities. It is envisaged to utilize solar energy and accordingly deploy appropriate technology at all big buildings and public places.
Beautiful Cities
Solid waste management encompassing segregation of waste, house to house collection, and transportation & disposal of waste on scientific basis would be pursued during the year 2005 to make our cities clean and beautiful. The landfill sites provided in each city would be constructed keeping in mind the environmental aspects. The State Government would provide necessary financial aid to execute solid waste management.
